The Umbrella Academy season 3 saw Reginald betraying Klaus and not letting him enter Oblivion, and here's why he left his son to die.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 saw yet another end of the world but with a twist as Reginald ended up resetting the timeline, but before that, he got rid of Klaus and didn’t let him enter Oblivion with the rest – and here’s why. Created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy is a series of comic books that was adapted into a TV series streaming exclusively on Netflix, debuting in 2019 and quickly becoming one of the platform’s most popular titles.

The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves, seven adopted siblings who along with other 36 children around the world were born on the same day, at the same time, to women who weren’t pregnant when the day began. Scientist and billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves set out to adopt as many of those kids as he could but only adopted seven, and as they developed superpowers, he trained them and formed The Umbrella Academy. After parting ways and having to reunite years later to save the world in season 1, the Hargreeves have been forced to rebuild their relationship and stop the apocalypse on two more occasions, but the one in The Umbrella Academy season 3 almost saw the demise of all the Hargreeves, all thanks to Reginald.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 saw the title team and the surviving members of the Sparrow Academy joining forces to stop the kugelblitz that would, once more, end the world, all while Reginald had some selfish plans prepared. Reginald seemed to have bonded with Klaus as he helped him explore his powers and unleash their full potential, but when it came to entering Oblivion to save themselves from the apocalypse and reset the timeline, Reginald left Klaus to die.

What Reginald Leaving Klaus Behind Really Meant

In order to bring the Umbrellas and Sparrows into Oblivion and thus be able to reset the timeline, Reginald made a deal with Allison and later killed Luther, as he and half of the team decided to stay until the world ended, and Luther’s death was a trigger for the rest to avenge it. However, that wasn’t the end of Reginald’s betrayals, as just as everyone else ran into Oblivion, he stopped Klaus and left him in Hotel Obsidian, just as the world came to an end. Klaus had no other choice than kill himself and he later joined the rest at Oblivion. Reginald ended up using him to step on one of the stars to make the timeline reset happen, thus raising questions about why he got rid of him if he still used him in his plan.

When Reginald stopped Klaus from coming with them, he told him he’s “more trouble than he’s worth”, which could be linked to Klaus’ powers and what he could learn through them, such as Reginald being the one who killed Luther. Among Klaus’ powers is communicating with spirits from the afterlife, so he could have communicated with Luther and learned the truth about his death, thus messing with Reginald’s plans. Klaus catching up with them at Oblivion ended up benefitting Reginald’s plan, as that allowed him to save Allison as he already had the seven people he needed to step on the stars and reset the timeline.

Why Klaus Killed Himself After Reginald Left Him

Reginald trained Klaus to master his power of self-resurrection, to the point where Klaus was able to come back from the dead in just a matter of seconds. Now, when Reginald left Klaus behind as the world came to an end, Klau’s only solution to not die in the apocalypse was killing himself before the kugelblitz caught up with him so he could come back from the dead, just like Reginald taught him. However, this leaves the question of how he was able to show up in Oblivion when he came back to life, as his body was taken by the kugelblitz, yet when he revived himself, he showed up at Oblivion. Reginald once more proved in The Umbrella Academy season 3 that he can’t be trusted, and he will betray anyone in order to get what he wants.
