There’s no question that it’s the movie’s many great characters who help to make it shine, and so it is worth taking a look at them through the lens provided by the zodiac.
Simon Pegg has been in a number of notable roles, and he brings his signature vocal charms to the character of Bob. There’s no question that Bob is one of the most entertaining and vibrant characters in the movie, with a powerful charisma that makes him irresistible, and behind some of the movie's best quotes.
However, he also shows that he has a bit of a temper at times, and he is particularly protective of the Land of Luck. Like most Aries, he also has a bit of a stubborn streak, and it can sometimes take a lot of convincing to get him to do something he doesn’t want to do.
Whoopi Goldberg is another dynamic screen presence, and she has been in many great movies. She provides the voice of the Captain, one of those in the Land of Luck who is most hostile to Bob and his tendency to break the rules.
Like most of those born under the sign of Taurus, she can be very stubborn, but it is also worth noting that she is very loyal and committed to her duties. What’s more, she also has that sign’s dependability, which is no doubt why she has been able to attain her position.
Whenever a Gemini is around, it is fairly certain that they are going to be the life of the party. This perfectly describes Gerry, one of Bob’s co-workers in the Land of Luck.
From the moment he appears, he shows that he truly does take a great deal of pleasure in life. He also shows just how willing he is to help both Sam and Bob as they attempt to obtain a lucky penny.
Loyalty to family and friends is one of the most important aspects of the Cancer personality. This is very true of Hazel, who is the little girl that Sam has befriended during her time at the orphanage.
Because of both her birth sign and the fact that she has long been denied a forever family, she tends to cling to Sam with fervent devotion. However, as it turns out this is what both of them need, and they ultimately end up being the family the other desires.
Jane Fonda has been in many great roles, such as starring in Grace and Frankie. She imbues the character of Babe the Dragon with quite a lot of charm and charisma, as well as power. After all, Babe is the luckiest being in the universe, with tremendous power to affect the Land of Luck.
As a Leo, she tends to believe that her way is the best, even if that might not always be the case. However, there is also no doubt that she has a magnetic personality that is also a key part of this sign, and there are few who can resist her.
In addition to being a Taurus, the Captain shows many signs of being born under the sign of Virgo. She has a very no-nonsense attitude about how things should be done in the Land of Luck, and this is particularly true where Bob is concerned.
Once she comes to believe that he should be banished to the land of Bad Luck, she doesn’t rest until she almost brings that to pass. At the same time, it is also worth noting that she has a Virgo’s sense of loyalty, particularly when it comes to her duties to the Land of Luck at large.
Though Luck doesn’t really have villains, for a while it seems as if the residents of Bad Luck might fill that role. However, it quickly becomes clear that Rootie, one of its leaders, is in fact a very kind, gregarious, and generous person.
He has the telltale traits of the Libra, particularly since he is always willing to help others, no matter the cost to himself. What’s more, he also seems to have this sign’s commitment to justice, which is why he volunteers those who, up until now, have looked down on him.
In addition to being an Aries, Bob also shows some of the signs of being a Scorpio. Though he only shows it occasionally, it’s clear that there’s a bit of an edge to Bob, one that emerges at several points throughout the movie.
More importantly, he also shows that he is both very loyal and very brave when it comes down to it, which is what makes him such a perfect match for Sam. It’s no wonder, then, that he ends up being part of her much-desired forever family at the end of the movie.
One of the more outlandish characters that Sam meets in the movie is Jeff the unicorn, voiced by Flula Borg. It’s immediately clear that he is a Sagittarius, as he has an infectious charm that is impossible to resist, and he seems like the type of person who would always be the life of the party.
Jeff also has that sign’s keen emotional intelligence, which helps to explain why he is able to emotionally connect so deeply to Babe the Dragon. Ultimately, he emerges as one of the most likable characters in the movie.
As one of the best animated movies of 2022, Luck excels at creating secondary characters who are just as interesting and compelling in their own way as the main ones. Mrs. Rivera, for example, is the woman in charge of the orphanage where Sam lives at the beginning of the movie.
While she clearly cares for Sam, she also is a Capricorn through and through. She is sensible and determined to follow the rules, which is why she insists that Sam has to leave, even though she wants to stay a few more days.
Another fascinating secondary character is Marvin, who is the owner of the store where Sam goes to work. From the moment he appears it’s clear that is the perfect Aquarius. He has that air sign’s signature optimism.
He is the type of person who will always look on the bright side, particularly where Sam is concerned. It’s for this reason that he is willing to give her a chance to work at his store, even though she quickly proves more than a little disaster-prone.
Part of what makes Luck such a great animated movie is its central heroine. Sam has all of the personality traits of the Pisces. She has a warmth and emotional intelligence that marks her as the most empathetic of the water signs. She is always looking out for the best interests of others, particularly Hazel.
What’s more, she shows Pisces’ adaptability, and throughout the movie, she is able to change her approach depending on whatever problems happen to come her way. It’s no wonder that she also emerges as one of the movie’s most likable characters.
