Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard in the beloved Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, provides story details for the show's forthcoming season 3.

Co-creator and star Brendan Hunt offers story details for Ted Lasso season 3. The Apple TV+ series premiered in August 2020 and centers on an American football coach played by Jason Sudeikis. He's joined by an ensemble cast that includes Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Nick Mohammed, Phil Dunster, Sarah Niles, Jeremy Swift, and Hannah Waddingham. Ted Lasso has received universal acclaim and garnered several accolades during its run, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2021.

Ted Lasso season 2, which concluded in October 2021, took the show in new directions, diving deeper into the characters' back stories and personal lives. It also focused on Richmond's quest for promotion to the Premier League, which the team earned in the finale. However, season 2 ended with a shocking twist that saw Nate quit Richmond and join cross-city rivals West Ham United, which was earlier bought by Rebecca's ex-husband Rupert.

During an interview with THR, Hunt teased what viewers can expect in Ted Lasso season 3, which could wind up being the show's last. Hunt revealed that the AFC Richmond team will once again have to come to terms with being "minnows" in the Premier League and that there will be more focus on West Ham, given the rival team's acquisition of Nate. Check out Hunt's full quote below:

What shows usually do in season three: We all adopt a child. A bunch of adopted children running around. It really becomes more of an Oliver! thing — Oliver exclamation point. No — the team is dealing with the reality of going back to the Premier League, where we’re minnows again. We’re minus our brightest tactical mind, and we know the way the Premier League structure works, we have to play West Ham twice, so Nate and Rupert [Anthony Head] are out there looming. We might see a bit of what’s going on at West Ham as well.

Given that Nate has been one of Ted's most trusted confidantes and core contributors to Richmond's positive turn of fortunes so far, it's understandable that Ted Lasso season 3 will focus on his new surroundings, from where he will challenge his former club. Hunt's mention of Rupert also suggests that Rebecca is in for a busy season where she will have to navigate the club's second attempt at first-tier football while going head-to-head against her ex-husband and his new East London club.

Character development has been front and center in Ted Lasso's story, and it sounds like the upcoming episodes should be no different. Anticipation for Ted Lasso season 3 is expectedly high, with the stage set for a barrage of intriguing conflicts after the events of season 2. While a few of the season 1 and season 3 story beats may be similar (Richmond playing in the Premier League, Rebecca's conflict with Rupert), the new season will undoubtedly be handled in a unique way given the position most of the characters presently find themselves in. Ted Lasso season 3 is expected to air in late 2022/early 2023, and viewers can expect a fitting continuation of the story when it eventually drops.
