Pokémon Squishmallows are on the horizon, with Pikachu, Gengar, and two other recently-revealed cuties coming to stores this fall.

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 was full of reveals, many of which have made pop culture news, but for plushy fans, the announcement of the Squishmallow Pokémon collaboration was one of the best. The first two designs, Pikachu and Gengar, were displayed on rotating pedestals, behind glass, a regal reveal deserving of such cuteness.

Squishmallow's are known for being extremely soft and of good quality, and the Pokémon versions look to be following suit, even featuring an embroidered pokéball on the back of the plush. Now that the collaboration is official, the biggest question for fans is which of the hundreds of Pokémon they want to see adapted into the rounded plushy form the most.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Mew

The mythical Pokémon, Mew, is one of the most intriguing and according to the lore, the single ancestor of all other Pokémon. Seeing as Mew is the blueprint for all the others, immortalizing this Pokémon into a huggable form just makes sense.

Mew's light pink color and striking blue eyes would make for an adorable plush rendition, and seeing as many other Squishmallows feature creatures with long tails, its form could surely be achieved. Perfect for any pink gaming setup, Mew is a legendary Squishmallow fans are hoping to see make it into production.

Piplup

It’s easy to imagine Piplup, the adorable water-type Pokémon, in Squishmallow form. Unlike its fierce evolution, Empoleon, this Pokémon's shape is reminiscent of a baby penguin in a Peter Pan collar, making it one of the cutest to catch of em’ all.

Piplup was unveiled in gen four and has been making a splash ever since, becoming a fan favorite. From its rounded shape to its soothing blue color palette, Piplup is a fantastic choice for a plush adaptation that fans are hoping will come to fruition, perhaps looking a little like the Babs The Blue Jay mainline Squishmallow.

Jigglypuff

Serving as a foil to Gengar, one of the best poison-type Pokémon that’s already confirmed to be coming into Squishmallow glory, Jigglypuff would be the perfect Pokémon to cuddle in bed, lulling its holder right to sleep with its signature lullaby.

Musically talented Jigglypuff is another beloved gen one Pokémon whose cuteness can’t be overstated. Its fluffy pink aesthetic makes it an ideal Squishmallow design that would appeal to collectors of all things “kawaii” as well as OG Pokémon fans. Its rounded design would look incredible on any Pokémon collectors shelves, appealing also to fans of Super Smash Bros.

Snorlax

Snorlax, the sleeping Pokémon, is sure to make an appearance in Squishmallow form, not just because its release has been unofficially confirmed on Reddit, but because of how perfect this pocket monster would be for cuddling.

This Squshmallow lends itself to a 24” version one day, though it seems the first wave of Pokémon Squishmallows may  be the standard 12” sizing. A popular Pokémon that’s hard not to love, let alone not to hug, Snorlax is a necessary addition to the collaboration. Fans should hope the plush comes with a Poké Flute lest they get stuck cuddling indefinitely.

Charizard

In battle Charizard is fearsome, offering one of the highest base attacks in Pokémon across all different platforms of play. As a plush, it would make for an iconic dragon-type Squishmallow collectors would scramble to buy.

Some of the cutest mainline Squishmallows are creatures like dragons that have wings, meaning that Charizard's form could be adapted quite easily. Fans can imagine fiery fluff at the end of its tail and Charizard's signature orange and teal color scheme encapsulated in the huggable world of Squishmalllows'. This striking Pokémon has been around since the first generation of Pokémon, making it one of the most popular in the franchise.

Chansey

In addition to being just plain cute, Chansey is a unique Pokémon that lays several eggs a day in the pouch on its abdomen. Already shaped like a Squishmallow, Chansey is a perfect choice to be crafted into plushy form.

One of the Squishmallow's most popular mainline designs is the Axolotl, which collectors swoon over. Chansey's shape and design resemble this Squishmallow already, making it a simple choice that fans hope the company's designers won’t overlook. A tank in battle but lover at heart, Chansey would be a huggable addition to the collection.

Squirtle Squad

Squirtle is one of the most beloved water Pokémon, and because it dates all the way back to generation 1, its design is highly recognizable. A light blue plush featuring a Squirtle shell is easily imaginable in Squishmallow form.

The gen 1 starters are easily some of the most popular Pokémon of all time, but of the three, Squirtle's' design makes the most sense condensed into the bottom-heavy Squishmallow shape. Taking the idea a step further would be including the iconic Squirtle squad sunglasses, an embroidered touch that fans would have to buy at least five of to complete the squad.

Ditto

Ditto is a Pokémon as squishy and malleable as they come, meaning it would make an ideal subject for a pink plushy with its facial details finished in simplistic embroidery, recreating this Pocket Monster in the highly recognizable Squishmallow style.

This mischievous Pokémon that loves to transform itself could also be a genius marketing scheme, as Squishmallow came out with a reversible variant called Flip-a-Mallows in 2020. A Ditto Squishmallow that could be flipped inside out to reveal another Pokémon would make for a legendary plush design that fans themselves would flip out over.

Eeveelutions

Eevee has become somewhat of a co-mascot for the Pokémon Company besides Pikachu, becoming one of the most well-known Pokémon of the franchise, and its 8 Eveelutions are no exception. Every Pokémon fan has an opinion on which is the best, making a perfect opportunity for Squishmallow to create them all and cash in on the love fans have for this unique Pokémon.

Both Eevee and its Eeveelutions are similar in appearance to cats, making them some of the best catlike Pokémon of all. If these Pokémon plushies followed in the footsteps of the rarest and most valuable Squishmallow, Jack The Black Cat, who is worth $1200 (via Work and Money) they may too become the most sought after of the series.

Togepi

Squishmallows are vaguely egg-shaped which makes this baby fairy-type a no-brainer. Togepi was recently unofficially confirmed to be included in the first wave of Pokémon Squishmallows, thanks to a resourceful Reddit user.

Fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see Togepi in all its Squishmallow-y glory. There is no release date yet for the first wave of Pokémon Squishmallows, but with fall and the upcoming holiday season drawing nearer, it may only be a few more months fans will have to wait to get their hands on this adorable collection.
