Luffy has always possessed some of the most creative techniques in anime. From such a long series, he has many too. But which ones are his best?

The hiatus was well worth the wait as the manga for One Piece returned on July 25th. Fans are both nervous and excited for the final saga of the epic anime series to begin.

While this is the beginning of the end, there is still quite a bit of content to be released before that time comes.  Throughout his journey, hero Monkey D. Luffy has displayed incredible powers through the power of the Devil Fruit, giving fans some of the most intriguing and creative attacks in anime.

10 Gum-Gum Pistol

Gum-Gum Pistol has become Luffy's signature attack throughout One Piece. Luffy typically pulls back his arm for this attack and propels it forward to deal an incredibly powerful punch.

Luffy displays many variations of this technique in the series, especially when used in tandem with his different gear forms. One of those is his Jet Pistol which allows him to quickly use his attack and slam into a surprised opponent as demonstrated on Blueno at Enies Lobby.

9 Gum-Gum Bazooka

Gum-Gum Bazooka is a devastating blow that utilizes both of Luffy's arms. He draws them back and then slams them forward into his opponents.

Luffy has used this technique in various parts of the series, though his first usage of it and perhaps the most memorable moment was when he defeated Buggy, sending the pirate far away from Orange Town. At one point, thanks to his second gear, Luffy is even able to use this attack in quick successions making it all the more dangerous.

8 Gum-Gum Elephant Gun

Like many of Luffy's techniques after training during the time skip, Luffy's Gum-Gum Elephant Gun is named after an animal. This technique allows Luffy to blow up either his hand or foot like a balloon and perform a powerful blow.

This has been used in multiple scenarios like his battle against the Kraken. This attack is one of the few Luffy is notable for having in the third gear but it's extremely helpful for some of Luffy's later techniques that he uses against opponents like Kaido and Doflamingo.

7 Gum-Gum Monkey God Gun

This is the technique that has made many fans draw comparisons of Luffy to Sun Wukong, the Monkey King from Journey to the West. This is Luffy's strongest move yet in the series and the technique he used to defeat Kaido.

Much like Zoro and his best techniques, Luffy is constantly putting together what he learns to perform his strongest attacks. This is what he does in his battle against Kaido combining the different types of Haki and mixing knowledge of his previous gears into his power.

6 Gum-Gum Lightning

This technique isn't one Luffy can conjure or do offhand and was simply one he was able to do given the setting of his battle. This technique is simply a prelude to what fans will get to see Luffy do in the future.

In his battle against Kaido, which was one of the best fights during the Wano arc, Luffy jumps into the air and catches a lightning bolt. He is then able to transform this into his rubber properties and make the attack his own.

5 Gum-Gum Giant

Like with Luffy catching the lightning bolt, Luffy demonstrates many new unique abilities in his battle against Kaido. While this new technique was only briefly used, it's a perfect demonstration of Luffy's new powers.

Previously Luffy was only able to increase certain parts of his body like his belly or one of his fists, but with gear five he demonstrates that he can now enlarge his entire body. This is something that will surely come into play later.

4 Gum-Gum King Cobra

Luffy's battles grew more and more intense throughout the series. His fight against Katakuri is one of those and gave fans one of the best long anime shonen fights ever.

With his final attack, Luffy uses an attack called Gum-Gum King Cobra in the Snake-Man version of his gear four. This attack twirled through the area until it finally landed its target on Katakuri. The attack resembles the animal that has its namesake well and barely allowed Luffy victory.

3 Gum-Gum Jet Gatling

Enies Lobby will forever be remembered as one of the best arcs in One Piece and Luffy's usage of his second gear against Rob Lucci is just as memorable as everything else in the arc.

What is likely the strongest attack Luffy had demonstrated up until this point in the series was the technique Gum-Gum Jet Gatling. This was the perfect display of Luffy's willpower, strength, and new ability. His fists moved rapidly, slamming into the Zoan-type finally defeating him in one of the most dramatic battles of One Piece.

2 Gum-Gum Red Hawk

Gum-Gum Red Hawk has become a recurring attack of Luffy's in One Piece and many fans see it as the replacement of Luffy's Gum-Gum Pistol as his new signature technique. Luffy pulls back his arm with coated Armament Haki until it ignites with flames.

He then deals with a powerful punch. The technique was beautifully displayed in the anime by giving a silhouette of Ace's Fire Fist behind Luffy, a symbol of Luffy carrying on his brother's will. This comparison is also noted by Tama in the Wano arc as she remembers her old friend Ace.

1 Gum-Gum King Kong Gun

With this technique, Luffy draws his arm back in the Bounceman version of his fourth gear and enlargens his fist with Armament and Conqueror's Haki. He then propels his fists forward, firing them like a massive fist and cannon.

This technique clearly inspired the punch that defeated Kaido, but it's difficult to top the original. Luffy's Gum-Gum King Kong Gun was one of Luffy's most explosive attacks that handily defeated Doflamingo once and for all.
